Could the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge be for you?

Medicare says you must meet all four requirements below to receive a covered GLP-1 medication through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge.

MEDICARE'S FOUR REQUIREMENTS

Check each statement that appears to apply to you.

I have Medicare Part D drug coverage.

This may be through either a standalone Medicare Drug Plan or a Medicare health plan that includes drug coverage.

Medicare says certain special plan types may not qualify, including some private fee-for-service plans, cost contract plans, and PACE organizations.

I'm not eligible to receive a GLP-1 drug through my Medicare drug plan.

Medicare says that if your drug plan is already paying for a GLP-1 drug for you, you should continue receiving your GLP-1 medication through that plan.

The Medicare fact sheet defines GLP-1 drugs for this purpose as products containing semaglutide, tirzepatide, orforglipron, dulaglutide, or liraglutide.

I don't have type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea, or fatty liver disease.

Medicare says that if you have one of these conditions, you should contact your Medicare drug plan because it may already cover a GLP-1 drug for you.

I'm at least 18 years old AND at least one of these applies to me:

My BMI is 35 or higher.

•

My BMI is 30 or higher and I have certain types of heart failure, hard-to-control high blood pressure, or chronic kidney disease stage 3a or above.

•

My BMI is 27 or higher and I have prediabetes, or I've had a heart attack, stroke, or blocked arteries in my legs or arms.

Don't know your BMI? Medicare recommends asking your doctor. BMI is calculated from your height and weight.

You don't need to guess. Medicare recommends talking with your doctor about whether a covered GLP-1 medication is right for you and whether you qualify for the program.
